SCCO and MMC Unveil New Pediatric Cancer Unit in Meroe City

In a successful collaboration between the Sudan Children’s Cancer Organization (SCCO) and Merowe Medical City (MMC), a dedicated pediatric cancer unit has been inaugurated in the city of Merowe, Northern Sudan. The recently established unit features a 36-bed inpatient facility, providing critical care for children in the aftermath of tragic escalations of fighting in Wad Madani and other Sudanese cities. The unit’s services were officially launched on February 1st.

SCCO plays a crucial role in this partnership, offering chemotherapy treatment, supportive care medications, financial aid for radiology and laboratory investigations, and surgical procedures. Numerous children, accompanied by their families, have been transferred from various states to receive essential treatment at this unit. To cater to the needs of children undergoing treatment and their families, SCCO is also providing a comfortable Rest House.

Founder and President of SCCO, Dr. Nidal Mahgoub, appealed to the Ministry of Health and Sudanese diaspora communities to collaborate with the organization and Meroe Medical City in ensuring the provision of necessary services, assistance, and treatment for all children battling cancer in this war zone. Dr. Mahgoub emphasizes, “Together, we can strive to make a difference in the lives of these young patients and their families.”
